Postoperative Instructions: Facial Laceration

Pain

For severe pain, take the prescribed medication as directed. Do not exceed the recommended dose of any pain medication.

Antibiotics

If you have been prescribed antibiotics, take as directed. Discontinue use in the event of a rash or other unfavorable reaction. Call the office if you have any questions.

Hygiene

Good hygiene is essential to good healing. To keep your wound clean, apply a solution of 50/50 hydrogen peroxide and sterile saline, with a Q-Tip. Be sure to reapply twice daily. Then, apply a light coating of Bacitracin Antibiotic Ointment. Because of the nature of your injury, sutures have been placed to aid in your healing. If your sutures are non-dissolvable, they will be removed within seven days post-treatment. You should not take a bath or swim, until the sutures are removed. When you shower, avoid getting your sutures wet.

Activity

After a few days, you will feel fine and can resume your normal activities. To help minimize the appearance of your wound, be sure to avoid sun exposure to the area. When you do go into the sun, cover the area as much as possible.
